Howdy from Singapore Airport!

Howdy folks ....
Thats the first leg of my return jounrey done ... a 7 hour stint to Singapore. It's 04:30 here in singapore and none of the cool shops which sell criminally cheap electronic goods are open!
Only another 13 hours of cattle class before im back in the motherland, I would say i'm excited ... but I've had the best 3 weeks of my life, if I had it my way I wouldnt be coming back from oz. But, Duty Calls.
I tried not to sleep the first leg of the trip, so hopefully i'll sleep through the longest part of the trip.
Well, thats all I have to report folks. Should be back on English soil by around 12:15 Monday lunch time ... then its a 3 hours bus trip back up to casa del beaumont and straight into my own bed for a good solid nights sleep before a tuesday morning return to the office!
Here closeth my summer vacation 2004 ... it really has been the best one so far! See you all soon.

G'Day from Sydney!

Howdy Folks ....
So here we are ... in the final days of what has been, without any shadow of a doubt the best holiday i have every had. Rach is leaving tomorrow (saturday) and I'll be following on Sunday.
We got into Sydney on Monday morning and within a few hours we'd met up with Alex and Roise (Rachaels 2 travelling buddies). We'd checked into a bit of a naff hostel in the city centre ... so after stuggling through a night there we relocated to a great litte place in Bondi beach call indys backpackers .... (which is where I am this very second). We've dont the bridge climb and also managed to get in a romantic meal for two in the revolving restaurant at the top of the AMP tower in the centre of sydney ... it was a great way to celebrate out 5 month anniversary!
Today we're heading off on a Whale watching cruise ... so hopefully we'll get to see a load of humpbacks! we've managed to do loads of shopping whilst we've been here ... all the useual cheesy things ... boomerangs ... stubbie coolers etc.
Rach flys to new zeland tomorrow at 11:20am ... and I fly on sunday at 22:15 I'll have two whole days in Sydney all on my todd .. Im thinking about treating myself to a night in a hotel somewhere in the city ... :o)
Well ... im fast running out of air time here ... so im going to have to go, but in conclusion ... Australia is a fantastic place and my trip has just confirmed what I already knew ... this is somewhere I want to live ...
See you all soon for a few stubbies ... with about a million photos!

Final Day In Cairns!

G'day Sports!
Well ... its been 2 weeks and 2,300km ... but sadly our east coast campervan adventure has drawn to an end! But fear not ... although we leave Cairns very very early tomorrow morning ... we'll be heading down for 6 days of, what promises to be somewhat more chilly, fun in  Sydney!
A quick update of what we've been getting upto on the last couple of days ... Rach and booked onto a Diving trip out on the Barrier Reef, which we did on Saturday ... it was probably the most fantastic thing i've had the pleasure of taking part in all holiday. As Rach is a certified diver she and I were in seperate diving parties but my instructor was and English Chap who said that he would arrange a special final dive so that Rach and I could go together. Having never scuba dived before in my life i was a little unsure of what to expect. Before our first dive all of the diving newbies had a 40 minute theory lesson ... after that we were kitted up and let loose with out instructors and hit the big blue ... the first dive was amazing ... the second  saw 2 sharks and the third Rach and I got about 3 feet away from a white tipped reef shark (about 5 ft long). It really was amazing .. so amazing in fact that I had to buy the video of my first dive.... yet another one I'll need to get on my website for you all to look at.
The night before the dive Rach and I had the Van parked in Port Douglas, a small car park right next to the marina .... we settled down for the night after a bag of sea side fish and chips .... it gets to 12:30am ... we're both fast alseep ... all of a sudden we here a knock on the van door. i opened the door and there standing in front of me was a very scary little man! "I am the Douglashire county Ranger....." he said ... "I am afraid that your not allowed to camp here ..." He continued to explain that we would have no look finding an open campsite at this time of night and out only hope was to drive 30 minutes down the road to the next town and stop there! So dazed and half asleep I set about preparing the van for the off ... we left the car park and got no more that 600 yards down the road before a figure waving a flashing batton jumped out in the middle of the road ... I slowed to a stop and opened the window .... "Random Breath Test Sir ... Please blow into this for me ...". Thank god I'd not had anything to drink that night .... so we passed and were allowed to continue on our way ... after about 20 minutes we reached the next town and began to follow signs to the camping gound the ranger had told us about. To my horror, I noticed a set of flashing red and blue lights in my rear view mirror!!!! Police again .... so I pulled over and once again opened my window .... "G'day, Could you please blow into this for me sir ... " Breath test number 2 in 20 minutes .... after sucessully passing both breath tests we finally made it to the camp site at around 01:30am ...
So as you can see ... the last few days have been very interesting. Well as its our last night on the coast Rach and I decided to treat ourselves and book into the Cairns Hilton ... NICE!
We're just about to go and return our beloved campervan before grabbing a bite to eat and tucking into a few stubbies before we jet off to Sydney in the morning .... FANTASTIC!
I hope everyone is doing well back home .... I'm sorry to say that I am not missing home one bit ... and would happily stay here forever. Alas ... only 7 more days to go before I set off on the wonderful 21 hour trip home ... and start saving for next years holiday!
See you all soon!

Finally Made it to Cairns!

G'day All!
At long last our lass and I made it up to sunny Cairns! The weather is great and the food is even better, we were both a little worried that our trusty van wouldnt make the 1900km trip! But to our suprise she prevailed! En route we managed to fit in a 3 day trip to Fraser Island stopping in a 5 star luxury beach resort .... complete with wild Dingos and all you can eat Buffets ... as you can image ... those pounds have piled on .... but if you cant do it when your on your hols then when can you do it!
After Fraser we set off up the coast to Rockhampton ... spending the night in a BP Petrol station car park, NICE! Finally we made it up to Airle Beach and risked life and limb by throwing ourselves out of a plane at ... not 1 ... not 2  ... not 3 .... but 8000 feet! I also manged to get a Video to prove it ... I'll make every effort to get a copy of the tape in digital format to you all ASAP! Its very funny!
After that we set off on the final leg of our Road trip to Cairns ... stopping off in Townsville along the way .. and yet another night was spent on the side of the road. We finally got into Cairns about 3 hours ago and we're just off to book us some Barrier Reef diving! YEY!
Well ... thats all for now, dont want to bore you to much, sorry i've not been able to post any photos on my website but the camper van is not internet friendly!
Have a great one and look forward to hearing from you all soon!
Mitch and Rach!
